Delegation of the Global Ocean Summit Hong Kong and Macau Marine High-Level Forum visit HKUST Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau

On April 20, 2024, Prof. Tim Cheng, Vice-President for Research and Development, Prof. Penger Tong, Associate Provost (Mainland Affairs), and Prof. Jianping Gan, Head of the Department of Ocean Science and Director of the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau, welcomed a delegation of the Global Ocean Summit Hong Kong and Macau Marine High-Level Forum led by Prof. Lixin Wu, the 13th and 14th National People's Congress Standing Committee member, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, Fellow of the American Meteorological Society, Current Director of Laoshan Laboratory, Vice President of Ocean University of China, and Vice Chairman of the Qingdao Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

During the meeting, Prof. Jianping Gan provided a detailed overview of the development background and research highlights of the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau. Prof. Lixin Wu highly praised the rapid development and outstanding achievements of the Center under the leadership of Prof. Gan, expressing the hope for continued collaboration between the Laoshan Laboratory and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to promote regional marine scientific research.

 

The delegation also had the opportunity to visit the HKUST campus, with special visits to the Center for Ocean Research in Hong Kong and Macau at the HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study and Shaw Auditorium.
